Group Description

San Diego Region Birding is the official Rare Bird Alert (RBA) and birding discussion group for the San Diego region run by San Diego Field Ornithologists (SDFO).

San Diego Field Ornithologists is a non-profit organization that promotes the advancement of field ornithology (birding) through educational programs, publication of information, and the encouragement of record keeping.

All those with an interest in birding in San Diego County are encouraged to join this e-mail alert and discussion group. We encourage posting information about current rare and otherwise unusual birds, links to photos of such rarities, migration news, information on population trends and historical records, birding locations, and local bird-watching activities (including field trips, pelagic trips and trip reports, and birding festivals), all from within San Diego County. Please sign your messages with your full name and your city.

Meetings: SDFO holds regular meetings at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month at the The San Diego Foundation, 2508 Historic Decatur Rd., San Diego, California. On arrival please enter the first floor to the Hoffman Room. Please join us as a guest for a meeting or two, meet other members, and listen to guest speakers. We encourage you to join SDFO for only $25 a year. Please email Tom Blackman or Gary Nunn for more information (see below).

Resources: Other local organizations with an interest in birds include several chapters of the National Audubon Society - San Diego Audubon (San Diego), Buena Vista Audubon (Carlsbad, Oceanside and Vista), and Palomar Audubon (Escondido).
